Quickly calculate tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive prices, and split your taxes instantly.
A GST (Goods and Services Tax) or Sales Tax Calculator is a vital financial tool used by business owners, freelancers, and consumers to quickly determine the exact amount of tax they need to pay or charge. Instead of manually performing complex percentages, our tool allows you to instantly ADD tax to a base price, or REMOVE tax from a total price.
Our tool supports two primary modes of calculation:
In countries with dual-tax systems (like India), the total GST is often split equally between the Central Government (CGST) and the State Government (SGST). For example, if you charge an 18% GST rate, the invoice will reflect a 9% CGST and a 9% SGST. Our calculator automatically provides this halving split in the tax breakdown box for your convenience when writing invoices.
Is GST the same as VAT?
Conceptually, yes. Both Value Added Tax (VAT) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) are indirect, consumption-based taxes. The terminology changes depending on the country (e.g., UK uses VAT, Australia and India use GST), but the mathematical calculation is exactly the same.
Why do I get a weird decimal when removing tax?
Because you are dividing the total amount by a percentage fraction (e.g., 1.18), the resulting base price often has multiple trailing decimals. Our calculator automatically rounds the final output to 2 decimal places, which is standard for currency.
Can I use this for US Sales Tax?
Absolutely. Simply select the "Add Tax (Exclusive)" mode, type in the base price of your item, and enter your local state's sales tax rate percentage. It will accurately calculate the final checkout price.
